Getting Your GED

Can I earn a GED online?

The answer is...sort of.

GED preparation courses are offered at all of North Carolina's community colleges, and several of these community colleges offer those courses online. However, you should pick a community college near you as you will have to spend at least some time on the college campus for paperwork, pre-tests, orientation, etc.

North Carolina does not currently offer computer-based testing. Expected implementation for computer-based testing in North Carolina is July 1, 2013. See North Carolina's General Education Development Program page or contact the State GED Administrator for more information:

There are many websites offering high school diplomas for a fee. Unless the institution is accredited by North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction, these "degrees" will not be accepted at most colleges or employers. Watch the following video to learn more:
